THREE OAKS — River Valley Elementary pupils at the Three Oaks and Chikaming campuses have given this year’s PTO fund-raising efforts a big boost by participating in Color Dashes.

Principal Patrick Zuccala said the Color Dash (which features teachers, PTO members and himself adding color to the run around the school properties) began last year, growing out of a Fall Fun Run.

He said as of Oct. 22 the Color Dashes had raised $9,755 (the goal was $8,000).

“That’s a lot of hard work that those kids put in,” he said, adding that the PTO provides resources for classrooms, sponsors field trips, supplies class and school parties, and purchases books for pupils.

Elementary PTO President Hillary Will said the Color Dash “is our big fund-raiser for the year.”

“The kids seem to really enjoy it, and the volunteers love it,” she said.

Other PTO fund-raisers include a spring Fun Fair, a Read-a-Thon, and spirit wear sales.

She said the group holds popcorn days at the schools and is in the process of choosing this school year’s field trips.

“We buy a book for every student in the elementary classes. The teachers pick the books and then we purchase them and send them home with the kids,” Will added.
