NEW TROY — The New Troy Community Center’s Bathroom Renovation effort has taken a great leap forward with the recent news that three grant applications have been approved.

The Berrien Community Foundation, Lakeland Wellness Endowment, and Frederick S. Upton Foundation, together with a donation from Skybird Yoga, will contribute a total of $17,420 to the fund.

Donations from generous individuals in the community are also being received, each one bringing the fund closer to its goal of $46,000.

Friends of New Troy (FONT), the nonprofit organization whose volunteers operate and maintain the Community Center, will begin the first stage of renovations soon. But to reach their goal of redoing all four bathrooms,  continuing assistance from the community is needed.

The bathrooms, built for elementary students in 1952, still have the original child-size toilets and trough sinks, poor lighting, and deteriorating ceilings. Adult-sized toilets, infant changing stations and handicapped accessible stalls are included in the plans, along with LED lighting and new ceilings.

Donations may be mailed to Friends of New Troy, Bathroom Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 125, New Troy, MI 49119. Or visit and click on “donate.”
