NEW BUFFALO — Hometown Pharmacy in New Buffalo wants everyone to know “we are still here.”

Located at 1 North Whittaker St. (the entrance shares a parking lot with Barney’s Supermarket), the pharmacy occupies a building that until recently also was home to the Grand Variety store.

“We just want to get the word out that we’re here,” said Pharmacy Tech Shannon Schroeder.

And the full-service pharmacy has a lot to offer — filling prescriptions, providing immunizations such as flu shots and Shingrix, selling a variety of products including shampoo, over-the-counter drugs, gift ware, mobility products such as walkers and wheelchairs, and stocking some tasty snacks.

Schroeder said the New Buffalo Hometown Pharmacy also offers a local prescription delivery service (as far as Three Oaks, Grand Beach/Michiana and Union Pier) and there is a drive-through window.

Current hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The phone number is (269) 469-3636.

Employees include: pharmacists Marcia Snelling and Joseph Lee, and tech Carrie Cardone.

Schroeder said those seeking a local pharmacy don’t have to travel all the way to Michigan City or Bridgman (where the next-closest pharmacies are located).

She said the Newaygo, Mich.-based Hometown company has has 38 pharmacies in Michigan and a few in Indiana.

Although Grand Variety is now gone, the space it occupied is being readied for something new (Schroeder said she doesn’t yet know what that will be).
