STEVENSVILLE — The stand-alone Starbucks in Lincoln Township is about a month away from opening.
After speaking with developers on Friday concerning the incoming Starbucks, Township Building Inspector Jim Pheifer said they anticipate the franchise location to open sometime in mid-March.
“They are supposed to be ready for a partial final inspection this month,” Pheifer said. “They’re just painting and touching it up right now. The store is basically done. All the fixtures, signage inside are getting ready to be turned over to Starbucks.”
Workers broke ground on the project in late August.
The new restaurant is located on Marquette Woods Road close to Red Arrow Highway, near the Burger King and the I-94 on-ramp. It sits on 1.16 acres that the developers have owned for several years.
The 4,000-square-foot building will be split between two uses.
The front part of the building will be used for Starbucks, which will also offer a drive-thru. The back part of the structure will be dedicated to a business that has yet to be announced.
Pheifer said there hasn’t been a business chosen for the back portion yet.
“Hopefully, it will bring some other service businesses to town,” Pheifer said Friday.
The developers signed Starbucks on as a tenant before submitting site plans to the township, Pheifer said.
When the township received permit applications from the developer, the building department also got a permit for the interior buildout from Starbucks.
Developers initially submitted site plans last April 27. However, Starbucks’ interior build was sent separately on April 20.
Work would have begun sooner, but Pheifer said plans were pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The other Starbucks in Berrien County is situated inside the Martin’s Super Market in St. Joseph.
