BARODA — One man died and another was seriously injured in an Oct. 22 crash on Cleveland Avenue in Baroda Township.

Baroda-Lake Township Police Chief Shawn Martin said Wayne Hamilton, 66, of Buchanan, died at the scene of the 4:15 p.m. crash and Jeremy Ott, 39, of Berrien Springs, was taken to the hospital by Medic 1 in serious condition.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Ott’s care, and as of Monday afternoon about $8,000 of the $20,000 goal had been reached. Friends said on the page that he is in for a long road to recovery.

The crash happened on Cleveland Avenue near Sieman Road. Martin said Hamilton was traveling north on Cleveland and Ott was traveling south, both in pick-up trucks, when the two collided head-on.

Martin said the accident remains under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department accident reconstruction team.

Besides the Sheriff’s Department, Baroda-Lake Township police were assisted by Lincoln Township police, Chikaming Township police, Baroda Fire Department and Lake Township Fire-Rescue.
