UNION PIER — Police are asking for the public’s help as they continue to investigate an armed robbery reported Fri­day morning, Aug. 23, at the Whistle Stop store in Union Pier.

Chikaming Township Police Chief Todd Taylor says a man entered the store just before 8 a.m., pointed a gun at the store clerk behind the register and de­manded money. The clerk hand­ed over money and the man fled in a vehicle that is described as a navy or dark blue 2008-1010 Chrysler 300, Taylor said.

The alleged robber is described as a white man wearing a black bottom jaw mask with a white type of weave, black hoodie, camouflage pants and black gloves. He is said to have dark­colored eyes and eyebrows and is described as being 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches and very thin.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chikaming Township Police Department at (269) 469-3245.

In a Monday, Aug 26, post on its Facebook Page the Chikaming Police Department stated “The armed robbery is being aggressively investigated by our staff. We are currently working with another law enforcement agency on this case. We will update you once we have additional information … information we can release that will not jeopardize the criminal case.”

Milda’s Robbery Reported

UNION PIER — The following message was posted Sunday, Aug. 25, by Milda’s Corner Market in Union Pier: “We were robbed last night. We will be open for regular business. If anyone saw anyone suspicious in front of our building, please contact the police.”

An Aug. 26 Facebook post by the Chikaming Police mentioned “the burglary at Milda’s in Union Pier,” adding “that burglary too is being aggressively investigated.”

The message also mentioned burglaries of unoccupied homes in the Harbert area, with an update later on Aug. 26 stating “Suspect located, arrested, and confessed to all burglaries. Updates as time goes on.”

And the Chikaming Police reported the following on its Facebook Page: “On Friday, August 23rd, 2019, Officer Kaili Johnson responded to an assault in progress call at an address on Harbert Road. The victim in this case was assaulted by a 25-year-old female who fled the scene on foot prior to Officer Johnson arriving on scene. The 25-year-old female, who fled the scene, is alleged to have entered an attached garage and stole a vehicle. The 25-year-old female was found and arrested, and charged with: 1. Aggravated Assault; 2. Assault with a Deadly Weapon; 3. Home Invasion; 4. Motor Vehicle Theft; 5. Larceny; 6. Drunk Driving; 7. Resisting and Obstructing the Police.

The following information was provided by the Police Department on Sept. 4:

During the week of August 19th, several burglaries took place in the Harbert area of Chikaming Township. The person responsible has been identified and has confessed to the crimes. Charges will be sought. The person’s name will not be released at this time until the person has been arraigned.

On August 23rd, 2019, at around 7:54 AM, an armed man came into the Whistle Stop Grocery Store and robbed it. The man was able to escape with an undisclosed amount of money. Our police department is aggressively investigating this, and we will provide additional information when able to do so.

August 25th, 2019, at around 3:46 AM, an unknown male broke into the Milda’s Corner Store and stole an undisclosed amount of money. Our department is aggressively investigating this, and we will be providing additional information as the case unfolds.
