GRAND BEACH — The Berrien County Sherriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle collision rollover crash with entrapment on West U.S. 12 near Grand Ave. at 4:53 p.m. Aug. 16.

According to a police report, “witnesses stated that the silver Honda Accord was driving at a high rate of speed west bound on US 12. The Accord began passing on the right and lost control. The vehicle went off the road to the left striking a fire hydrant, a residence, a large rock, several trees, and a parked vehicle before overturning and coming to rest on its roof.”

Police said two passengers, a 23-year-old man and a 25-year-old male, both from New Buffalo, were able to exit the vehicle on their own.

The driver, a 29-year-old Michigan City man, was extricated by the New Buffalo Township Fire Departmen and transported to South Bend Memorial with serious injury.

Police reported that alcohol is believed to be a factor. The incident remains under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff accident investigation team.

Train incident

THREE OAKS — The Three Oaks Police Department reported a fatal Amtrak versus pedestrian accident in the area of South Elm St. and West Central Ave. at 6:55 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15.

Police said the incident is under investigation and no name will be released until next of kin is notified.

The Three Oaks Police Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Pokagon Tribal Police, New Buffalo Police Department, Chikaming Township Police Department, Three Oaks Ambulance, SMACAS Ambulance, Three Oaks Fire Department, Berrien County Victim Services Unit, and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
