NEW BUFFALO — Work has begun on the new “Gateway of Michigan” sign at the eastbound I-94 Exit One ramp, which New Buffalo Township Board members are hoping will be completed by Christmas. Delayed awaiting state approvals, the sign is the first piece of the $900,000 Exit 1 facelift. Decorative fencing, lighting and landscaping will follow in spring. The work was awarded to Grand River Construction and designed by Antero Group. Gathered recently to place a sign calling attention to the start of the project were (first photo, from left) Mark Price of Grand River Construction, Eric Neagu of Antero Group, Township Clerk Judy Zabicki, Treasurer Jack Rogers, Supervisor Michelle Heit and Trustees Pete Rahm and Patty Iazzetto.

The second photo is an illustration of the finished project.
