ST. JOSEPH — The pandemic has claimed another local event. Blossomtime Festival officials announced that community pageants will be postponed to after Sept. 1.

Organizers say they have not ruled out holding the annual Grand Floral Parade and will keep their options open for the time being.

Blossomtime President Anna Abdelnour said Blossomtime is “hoping to be able to continue with some of our time-honored traditions this spring such as Blessing of the Blossoms and other events that we feel could be possible within the guidelines set during this pandemic.”

Contestants who otherwise would have competed this school year for a local title will still have that opportunity, as Blossomtime is expanding the age limit to 17-20 years old for the 2021-2022 pageant season only.

Abdelnour said part of the reason for the decision is based on the limitations the pandemic would have forced, had they tried to conduct pageants this winter/spring.
