New Counselor

NEW BUFFALO – Hilary Cunningham was hired by the New Buffalo Area Schools as it’s new school social worker during a brief meeting Monday, Dec. 23.

She replaces Shannon Woerdehoff, who resigned to accept a position with Berrien RESA.

Chosen from five finalists, Cunningham is completing her internship at the River Valley School District and lives in St. Joseph.

Previously, Cunningham was a social worker for 11 years in the United Kingdom.  She is originally from Kalamazoo and holds a master’s degree in social work and a bachelor’s in human ecology, both from Michigan State University.

Also during the Dec. 23 meeting, Board President Chuck Heit read a letter from Berrien RESA outlining the steps to be taken in replacing Linda Holt, RESA’s board of education vice president who died recently.  The position will be filled by the remaining members of the board until the next biennial election in June 2021, at which time it will be filled for the remainder of the term which expires on June 30, 2023. The deadline for application was Jan. 2, 2020.
