MICHIANA — At approximately 12:50 a.m. on June 6, the Grand Beach/Michiana Police Department reported that it responded to beach Stop 39 in the Village of Michiana for a subject that fell about 20 feet, while trying to access the beach.

According to a press release from the department, Once on scene Officer Patrick Myers spoke with the 911 caller, who advised that a subject came to his residence and stated that two people were stuck down on the beach and one person was hurt. Officer Myers saw two subjects on the beach and immediately called for assistance from the Michiana Shores, Ind., Fire Department, New Buffalo Township Fire Department and Medic 1 Ambulance. After about an hour the two subjects were rescued by Fire Department personnel using a stokes basket and a rope.

One subject was unhurt and the other subject had a possible broken ankle, and later denied medical treatment.

All three subjects were cited into Berrien County Court for Trespassing.

The Grand Beach/Michiana Police Department would like to remind the public that if beaches are closed and posted “No Trespassing” that they are not to attempt to gain access and will be cited.
