THREE OAKS — The River Valley Board of Education on Aug. 3 narrowed the field of candidates to serve as the district’s next superintendent to a pair of finalists.
After interviewing four applicants during special meetings held on Aug. 2 and 3, the board scheduled secon interviews with Dr. Steven Disney and Dr. Sean Wightman during a special meeting slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, in the middle/high school media center. Disney is slated to be interviewed from 6:30 to 7:45 with the Wightman interview set for 7:45 to 9 p.m.
The two candidates will be on hand at the school to meet with the public prior to the meeting, from 5-6 p.m. in separate classrooms. Staff, students and community members are encouraged to attend.
Wightman, Principal of Dowagiac Middle School, was one of three applicants to be interviewed by Board of Education members during an Aug. 2 special meeting attended by members of the public (who filed out assessment forms during the interviews).
Also interviewed that evening were Ann Marie Cluff, Superintendent of the Eau Claire Public Schools; and Angela Piazza, Superintendent of the Cassopolis Public Schools.
Disney, former Superintendent of the River Forest Community School Corp. in Indiana (and before that Superintendent of the Oregon-Davis District, also in Indiana), was the lone candidate interviewed on Aug. 3.
Disney and Wightman were the top two choices for a second round by all but one member of the board (with Disney and Cluff the top two in that case).
