6 2 Pokagon Fund Judy H. Zabicki

ZABICKI

NEW BUFFALO — The Pokagon Fund Board of Directors at its May 2022 meeting selected Judith Handley Zabicki to serve as its next chairperson.

Zabicki succeeds Rob Gow in this role, who was term-limited as a jointly selected director on the board and whose term ended at the beginning of May 2022.

Zabicki has been appointed by New Buffalo Township to serve as its representative on the Fund’s board since January 2017.

“I’m honored and humbled to be elected as the chair of the board of this impactful organization,” Zabicki said. “I’ve seen the evolution of the Fund from concept, through its formation, and into the force for good for the residents of Harbor Country and the communities surrounding the Pokagon Band’s trust lands that it is today. The board has set a course to continue building on this solid foundation by increasing the capacity within the communities we serve and to enable our grantees – current and future – to meet our communities’ needs.”

Zabicki is married to David Handley and lives in the New Buffalo area. They have two grown daughters Casey Handley of Gilberts, Ill., and Dana Handley of Irvine, Calif.

Recently named to the Board of Directors was at-large member Kevin Harrington.

The Pokagon Fund is an independent, private foundation whose philanthropic activities aim to improve the quality of life for residents of the Greater New Buffalo Region and in communities surrounding the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians’ trust lands.
