Three local schools have been named 2020 Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.

Bridgman Superintendent Shane M. Peters announced on Thursday, Sept. 24, that the Department of Education had recognized both Bridgman Elementary and Bridgman High School as two of the 367 National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020.

Also so honored was New Buffalo Elementary School.

"This distinguished award is determined by our school's overall high academic performance as measured by the M-STEP state assessment," said New Buffalo Elementary Principal Adam Bowen. "Congratulations to all students, parents, and staff members on reaching this huge accomplishment! Go Bison!"

Peters noted that a total of 15 schools were selected in the State of Michigan, and Bridgman Public Schools was the only district in Michigan that had two schools chosen in their district for this award.

"Congrtulations to Mrs. Graves and Mr. Heath and their respective staff and students for this awesome achievement," he added.

New Buffalo High School was a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School selection.
