Donald James LaBorn

THREE OAKS — Donald James LaBorn, 80, of Three Oaks, MI, passed away on Friday-January 29, 2021, at Northwest Health-LaPorte Hospital in LaPorte, IN.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.

Don was born on Feb. 17, 1940, in Michigan City, IN, to the late Fred and Margaret (Shebel) LaBorn. Don served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. He then married the love of his life Sharon Lynn Sheeler in the summer of 1962. Don was a glazier for many years. In the 1980’s he opened New Buffalo Glass Arts where he specialized in creating stained glass windows, beveled glass and framing. Don was also a carpenter for most of his life and could build or fix practically anything.

Don spent most of his time enjoying his beloved family and also enjoyed trips to the casino. After retiring Don spent many years building and remodeling with his dear friend George Salerno. Don will be missed by all of his loved ones. They will surely miss hearing all of his great stories.

Don is survived by his wife Sharon; his children-Renee (Tim) Bowen of New Buffalo, Brian (Julie) LaBorn of South Bend, Aimee (Steve) Seifert of Three Oaks and Katie (Matthew) Mapes of New Buffalo; grandchildren-Adam (Nicole) Bowen, Ryne (Samantha) Bowen, Abbie (Gregory) Brumbill, Dylan (Candice) LaBorn, Maggie Seifert, Steven Seifert, Jack Seifert, Charlotte Mapes and Annelie Mapes; six great grandchildren; and two brothers-Fred (Judy) LaBorn and Tom (Monica) LaBorn both of Michigan City.

A Celebration of Life visitation with the family in form of a ‘walk by’ will take place on Saturday-Feb. 6 from 12:00-2:00pm at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. The New Buffalo American Legion Post 169 will conduct Military Honors at 2:00pm. Following will be private family services. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Buffalo or Three Oaks American Legion. Friends wishing to leave the family a message of condolence may do so at HYPERLINK ""
