THREE OAKS — Ellen L. Zebell, age 72, of Three Oaks, died peacefully Thursday, January 24, 2019, in the comfort of her home.
Ellen was born June 30, 1946 in Three Oaks to Irma (Dover) Horton. She married Joseph Zebell on July 28, 1992, at their home; he survives.
Fondly known as “Sis” by those close to her, she loved arts and crafts. She and Joe owned a craft shop in Three Oaks for several years where he could build and she would complete the project with paint. Together they would travel during the winter for different and unique items to put in the store. Sis also loved to make jewelry and dreamcatchers for the store.
Ellen was a machine operator for most of her working years, finally leaving the business in 1992. She was proud of her family and welcomed four sons and two daughters before meeting Joe. She was thrilled when her family grew with many grand and great-grandchildren.
Ellen will be greatly missed by family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 27 years, Joe Zebell of Three Oaks; sons William (Rose) Crowder of Taylorsville, North Carolina, John Crowder of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, Robert (Angie) Crowder of Kingman, Indiana, and Tommy Crowder of Three Oaks; daughters Diana (Earl) Russell Jr. of Dowagiac, and Tina (Kennedy) Kanjira of Vandalia; grandchildren Tiffany, Natasha, Crystal, John, Haylee, Robert, Bruce, Forester, Brian, Christina, Margaret, Christian, Davontae, Rihanna, Michael, Angie, and Julio; twenty-five great grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters Donna (Larry) Benson and Peggy Ott; brothers David (Jessie Davison) Horton, Rex (Robin) Horton, Jeff Horton, and Donny (Debbie) Horton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
