Joan Annette Karsen

PORT HURON, Mich. — Mrs. Joan Annette Karsen, age 88, formerly of Bridgman, passed away unexpectedly at her Port Huron home on January 7, 2019.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Bridgman, Michigan on Saturday, June 1st at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at 12 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph, Michigan.

Joan was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on May 4, 1930, to the late Simon and Ruth Ziolkowski.

She married the love of her life, Douglas Edward Karsen, on December 27, 1952, in Battle Creek, Michigan.

She worked as a kindergarten teacher for over 40 years, was the children’s librarian at the Bridgman Library, loved interacting with children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.    

She is survived by a son, Michael Douglas Karsen (Vera Jean) of Lawton, Michigan. A daughter, Julia Pincek, and the late John Pincek of St. Joseph Michigan, a daughter, Mary Katherine Karsen of Bridgman, Michigan, and a son, John (Donna) Karsen of Port Huron Michigan; sisters, Patricia King and Caroline Congdon; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas, son-in-law John Pincek, and her sister, Catherine Boyer.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Bridgman Children’s Library.
