Larry Gene Reed

STEVENSVILLE — Larry Gene Reed, 76, of Stevensville, Mich., passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at West Woods of Bridgman surrounded by his loving family.  He was born May 11, 1942 in LaPorte, Ind., to Theodore and Francis (Downey) Reed.  

After finishing high school, he became an excavating contractor ultimately owning and operating L.G. Reed, Inc.   

Larry married the love of his life, Arlene Josephine DeTomasi, in Michigan City, Ind., on June 18, 1961. Together they raised three children and spent ten years traveling to Honduras as Missionaries. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and traveling with his wife. Larry especially loved spending time with his beloved family and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife, Arlene; daughter, Antoinette Taylor; sons, Chris (Tammy Stelling)  Reed and Brian (Julie Snyder) Reed; grandchildren, Brandon Reed, Alexandra Reed, Mallory Reed, Britni Reed, Jacob Hirdning, Scott Hirdning, Julie Hirdning, and Joel Dawson; great-grandchildren, Zoie Reed, Payton Reed, Audrey Hirdning and Alice Hirdning and three brothers, Alden (Connie) Reed, Teddy Reed and Richard Reed.  

Per his request cremation has taken place. An open house to celebrate Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 1 to 4 PM at Lakeshore Estates Lodge, 3017 Johnson Road, Stevensville, Mich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Larry’s name to Alzheimer’s Research and St. Joe Church of the Nazarene – Mission Fund.
