THREE OAKS — Although there were no teams signed up for the American Legion Post 2014 Auxiliary’s tug-of-war competition, there was plenty of action in the arm wrestling.

Fifty contestants weighed in from teams throughout Michigan. All classes competed using the regulation arm table, elbow pads and grip pegs (although the juvenile contestants were given chairs to stand on).

Officiated by former River Valley wrestling coach Alan Berget, assisted by his wife Amy, Berget noted that many of the local talent he hoped would be competing were instead at the River Valley regional baseball and softball games being played that day in Gobles.

The initial Flag Day 5K Run and Walk drew 132 participants.

The top 10 finishers were: 1. Logan Payne of Galien (19:23); 2. Sean Larsen of Bloomington, Ill. (19:56); 3. Gunner Sweeney of New Carlisle; 4. David Dossett of Bloomington; 5. Harrison Bourne of New Buffalo; 6. Karen Nagel of Valparaiso, Ind. (21.42); 7. Josh Seifert of Three Oaks; 8. E. Devries of Three Oaks; 9. Kelly Izydorski of Three Oaks; 10. Roger Hasse of Galien.
