BUCHANAN — The Bridgman and Buchanan high school softball teams split a pair of BCS Conference Red Division games on April 23.

The Bees took the opener 2-0.

The only runs of the game scored in the top of the sixth when Mackenzie Knowlton was hit by a pitch and later driven in by Kaylee Shuler’s base hit. Shuler later stole her way to third base and came home on a throw pass third.

Both starting pitchers (Bridgman’s Natalee McNeil and Sophia Lozmack of Buchanan) gave up three hits and struck out 10.

The host Bucks bounced back to take game two by a 7-0 margin.

Megan Adkerson drove in three runs and had two of the Bucks’ nine hits.

Lozmack finished with two RBIs at the plate while scattering five hits and fanning 5 on the mound.

The New Buffalo High School softball team topped Lake Michigan Catholic by 7-3 and 10-3 scores on April 23.

Clair Workman had two hits and a run batted in for the Bison in the 7-3 victory.

Morgan Motycka and Olivia Haskins each had two hits in the 10-3 triumph.

Bridgman swept a pair from New Buffalo on April 25 by 16-0 and 10-1 scores.

In the opener Madelyn Oman had two hits, four runs batted in and four runs scored; Mackenzie Knowlton went 3-for-4 with three runs; McNeil finished with two hits and three RBI; and Arie Hackett went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

McNeil threw a one-hitter while striking out 11.

In the second game, Hannah Johnson had two hits (including a double) and three RBIs; Knowlton went 3-for-3 with an RBI; and Shuler, Oman and Haylee Kanous all went 2-for-2 with a run batted in.

Olivia Haskins drove in Jaqueline Hauseman (who also singled) in the first inning for the Bison.
