NEW BUFFALO — The New Buffalo HIgh School girls tennis team hosted the Bridgman-Lake Michigan cooperative squad on April 17.

The visiting Laker-Bees won six of seven contested matches (the Bison were missing a player due to the school play so there was no match at number-four singles).

New Buffalo coach Amy Ingle said there are 13 players on the New Buffalo team, five of them freshman and six seniors.

Twelfth-graders are the top four singles players for the Bison: Colby Robertson at number-one singles; Kaitlyn Biela at two singles; Libby Price (three singles); Bailey Ferrell (four singles).

At doubles for New Buffalo are (one doubles) Jaidyn Parmley (senior) and Lilly Baker-Cervantes (junior); (two doubles) Fatima Ortega (senior) and Leah Vinson (junior); (three doubles/four doubles) Ashley Hauseman and Alex Hanson (both 9th grade); Zoe Price and Alaina Baker-Cervantes (both freshmen).

Mark Ficks and Kim Siglow are coaches for the Bridgman-Lake Michigan cooperative team.

At one singles for the Laker-Bees is Priscilla Brinker (a senior at Bridgman); Bailey Siglow (a junior at LMC) is at two singles; the three singles player is Amber Smith (a Bridgman senior); and Sydney Melton (a BHS senior) is the team’s four singles player.

At doubles for the Laker-Bees are (one doubles) Ashley Willer and Madeline Johnson (both Bridgman juniors); (two doubles) Yvonne Caranza (10th grade at BHS) and Bella Tyler (Bridgman 9th); (three doubles) Maxi Viol (a German exchange student at LMC) and Krishna Patel (a Bridgman sophomore); (four doubles) Sara Krueger  (a German exchange student at LMC) and Casey Iniestra (an LMC freshman).

The Laker-Bees won by 6-4, 6-2 scores in the number-one singles match; 7-6, 6-3 at two singles; 6-1. 6-0 at 3 singles (Ferrell moved up for New Buffalo); 6-2, 6-1 at one doubles; 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 at two doubles; and 6-1, 6-0 at four doubles.

The Bison won 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 in the three doubles match.

The Laker-Bees came into the match at New Buffalo having lost to Brandywine and won three matches versus Berrien Springs.

The Bison opened the season at South Haven where Robertson and Biela won their matches before falling 4-3 to Coloma and losing to Buchanan.
