NEW BUFFALO — Track athletes from New Buffalo, River Valley and Bridgman high schools qualified for state competition during May 21 regional track meets.

New Buffalo hosted a Division 4 regional.

Team standings at that meet were:

Girls – 1. Gobles (118.5 points); 2. Marcellus (106); 3. New Buffalo (96.5); 4. Kalamazoo Christian (93); 5. Kalamazoo Hackett (75); 6. River Valley (40); 7. LCM (31). 8. Cassopolis (29).

Boys – 1. Kalamazoo Christian (126.5 points); 2. Kalamazoo Hackett (125); 3. Cassopolis (83); 4. Marcellus (82); 5. Decatur (59.5); 8. River Valley (28); 10. New Buffalo (12).

State Qualifiers at the Division 4 regional include:

New Buffalo

Girls – Abby Vitale in the long jump (first place, 15 feet, 3.5 inches) and the 400-meter run (second place, 1:05.12); Emma Lantz in the 100-meter hurdles (first place, 17.76); Allie Smith in the high jump (five feet, sharing the top height with Madilyn Simpson of Marcellus); Nadia Collins in the shot put (second place, 32 feet, 5 inches); the 4-by-100 relay team of Allie Smith, Ava Johnson, Emma Lantz and Da’Nai Smothers-Davis (second place, 56.20); The 4-by-200 relay team of Emma Lantz, Da’Nai Smothers-Davis, Allie Smith and Abby Vitale (second place, 1:57.74);

River Valley

Girls – The 4-by-400 relay team of Rylee Rogers, Alyssa Montgomery, Taylor Volstorf and Kursten Smith (second place, 4:35.46); The 4-by-800 relay team of Kursten Smith, Alyssa Montgomery, Taylor Volstorf and Rylee Rogers (second place, 11:19.35).

Also placing at the Division 4 regional meet were:

Girls – (New Buffalo) – Da’Nai Smothers-Davis, third in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the long jump; Allie Smith, fifth in the 200 meters; Ava Johnson, fifth in the 100 hurdles; Emma Lantz, fourth in the 300 hurdles; Eliza McGinn, third in the 3,200 meters; Nadia Collins, third in the discus; (River Valley) Kursten Smith, fourth in the 400 meters and seventh in the high jump; Rylee Rogers, fourth in the 800 meters;

Boys – (River Valley) Andrew Forker, 8th in the 100 meters, 7th in the 200 meters; Jeremiah Smith, 7th in the 400 meters; Josh Seifert, 10th in the 800 meters; Austin York, 6th in the 3,200; 8th in the 1,600; Max Nicely, 8th in the 110 meter hurdles; the 5th place 4-by-200 relay team of Andrew Forker, Josh Seifert, Tayte West and Jeremiah Smith; (New Buffalo) Emerson Barnes, 5th in the 1,600 meters; Keagan Papker, 9th in the 1,600; Nick Peters, 3rd in the long jump and 8th in the high jump.

Bridgman

The Bees competed in the Division 3 Regional meet at Constantine.

Qualifying for state were: Luke Blesy in the 800 meters (first place, 2:04.11); and the girls 4-by-800 relay team of Summer Fast, Mallory Griffiths, Jane Kaspar and Karsyn Stewart (second place, 10:54.07).

Also placing at regionals were:

Boys – Owen Slavens, 7th in the 400 meters; Luke Blesy, 3rd in the 1,600 meters; Sebastian Kirk, 10th in the 3,200; the sixth-place 4-by-400 relay team of Blesy, Jonathan Cabrera, Owen Slavens and Clark Smith.

Girls – Takiya Cornelius, third in the 400 meters; Kylie Ott, fourth in the 110 meter hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles; Jane Kaspar, 9th in the 800 meters; Karsyn Stewart, 6th in the 3,200; Maggie Griffiths 9th in the long jump.

The Bridgman girls team finished sixth in the team standings (Lawton and Centreville took the top two spots) while the boys finished 11th (Centreville and Lawton were first and second).
